D. Jeffrey McClendon, MS ALC NCC
Under the Supervision of Jay Byham LPC-S
Associate Licensed Counselor
I am a seasoned therapist at Vallis Mental Health, specializing in helping patients with their mental health concerns, including:
Life or career transitions
Anxiety
Depression
Bipolar Disorder
Grief
Substance addiction
PTSD
LGBTQ Issues
And more
Although I work primarily with individuals, I can organize group counseling sessions as well. I graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management, and obtained my Master of Science Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Capella University. Under the supervision of Jay Byham, LPC-S, I am an Associate Licensed Counselor (ALC) in Alabama and a National Certified Counselor (NCC) with the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC).
While I use a variety of approaches in working with individual patients, I primarily approach the counseling relationship from an Existential and Person-centered point-of-view. I encourage patients to practice self-examination and self-knowledge, using compassion, empathy, humor, and a bit of philosophy. In this environment, patients can feel both challenged and comfortable as they work through difficult life situations, troubling thought patterns and habits, and emotions. I want my patients to feel secure, important, and cared for.
