Peggie Tucker, MS LICSW - PIP
Licensed and Independent Clinical Social Worker
I am licensed by the Alabama Board of Social Work Examiners with a LICSW (Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker) which means I may practice counseling as well as social work. I graduated from University of Montevallo in Social Work and began working in the area of adoptions through the Alabama Department of Human Resources. I received my Masters of Social Work from University of Alabama by majoring in Health and Mental Health.
Twenty-six years followed with work in various aspects of social work and counseling. I have worked with families in their homes, individuals and groups in mental health facilities as well as centers, juveniles with substance abuse in detention homes, child victims of abuse and their parents and have done a wide variety of counseling and services to those in need, specifically those with depression, grief issues, anxiety, chronic psychosis, relationship issues, and parenting problems as well as other situations and diagnoses.
My counseling philosophy is based on the premise that “no one cares what you know until they know how much you care.” Therefore, I get to know my clients’ needs by first discovering their strengths and use these along with motivational techniques to generate change. The client leads the direction of the counseling which is adapted from an integrated counseling mode, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Rational Emotional Therapy and others based on the unique needs of each client. I am a member of the Alabama Association of Counselors and the National Association of Social Workers.
